    Bran Pudding, c. 1917-1918. Pen and ink on off-white paper sketch depicts a man in an apron standing over a large wooden bucket, with one foot resting on its edge.     Double-bladed Food Chopper, c. 1930s. Reddish wooden handle at top center, with metal side arms that split to hold two blades. Blades are held vertically, about two inches apart. Blades are flat pieces of metal cut into curved, rounded shapes, the long convex curve as the sharp bottom edge.

    Enamelware Double Boiler Pan & Lid, c. 1920s. Sky-blue enamelware double boiler top pan (A) and lid (B). Pan is tall and narrow, then juts out slightly wider about 1.5" from the top. It has a long black handle and rim. Lid is flat at the rim and then curves upward in a dome shape. Knob and rim of lid are also black, with two circular white stripes running around the top of the knob. Inside of pan and lid are white. No bottom pan present.

    Japanese Mandoline, c. 1930-1970. Wooden mandoline is rectangular in shape with flat and serrated diagonal metal blades in the center secured with round knobs and wingnuts.     Japanese Rice Boxes, c. 1930-1970. Two sets of rice boxes (A & B and C & D) which include wooden frames (A & C) and scalloped inserts (B & D). Used for molding multiple individual sushi at once. Small box (A) has dove-tail corners attached with pegs while large box (C) has notched ends along long side into which short side pieces are secured with metal nails.

    Japanese Rice Container with Lid, c. 1930-1970. Wooden barrel-style bowl (B.1) has a flat round bottom and slightly curved vertical wooden side slats are secured by two brass bands. Lid (B.2) is a flat circle with two horizontal rectangular strips of wood attached to the top forming handles. Lid rests loosely atop bowl.

    Japanese Rice Fan, c. 1930-1970. Wood and paper fan has a flat rectangular wooden bamboo handle and bamboo spokes radiating from top of handle which are covered with red paper that is straight on top and curved at the bottom. There is a black Japanese symbol decorating one side of the fan with a blue and white sticker with Japanese characters at the fan's base just above the handle. Used for cooling rice during the sushi-making process.

    Japanese Sesame Seed Paste Bowl, c. 1930-1970. Conical-shaped ceramic bowl has a round bulbous unglazed gray base and brown glaze on outside and inside rim. Rim is shaped on one side to form a spout for pouring. Interior has a very fine raised striped texture created using a tool with an upward angled motion, forming triangular spirals radiating from the center. Used for grinding seed paste.
