Description |
Japanese Candy Forms, c. 1930-1970. Solid wooden forms consist of wooden block bases with cut-out openings into which wooden stamps are inserted. Base (A) is a rectangle with an arch-shaped opening into which press (B) fits. Press (B) is hand-carved with a flat top and bottom, an arch-shaped base and a tapered handle. Base (D) is rectangular in shape with three cut-outs featuring the shapes of a cloud, flower and arch. Press (C) has matching block shapes to fit Press (D's) openings, all attached with wooden dowels to a narrow rectangular board. Candy balls are placed inside the bases openings and then pressed into shape. |
