Description |
Wood and acrylic plaque commemorating Jan Dukes of Mills High School who was inducted into the San Mateo County Sports Hall of Fame on June 23, 2005. Plaque includes image of Dukes and a brief biography: "An outstanding left-handed pitcher, Jan Dukes was one of the Peninsula's finest baseball players in the 1960's. His clutch hit in the 15th inning produced a 1-0 victory over rival Capuchino High School in a 1963 contest regarded as one of the most dramatic ever played in San Mateo County. Dukes also struck out 19 in that game. He went on to Santa Clara University where he became a star. He was drafted in 1967 by the Washington Senators. He spent portions of three seasons in the major leagues." |
