Surrey, c. 1900. 4 passenger (2 seats) surrey with fringed canopy; carmine and black painted body, seats and canopy naugahide; canopy pole missing. Black leather interior (not original). To create a variety of styles that would appeal to customers, carriage makers used different seat designs for distinctive profiles. This is two-seat Surrey has unusual diagonal open slat seat risers. It has a parasol top. A round area of wear on the front foot board indicates it may have included a bell. The body is black and the seat risers and undercarriage are dark red with black striping . There are brackets for lamps. This vehicle was used by the donor’s grandfather in San Bruno. Maker: A. Meister & Sons, Co. Builders, Sacramento, CA.
