Description |
McCormick-Deering seeder/wagon. Large wooden seeder wagon has four large 14-spoke wooden wheels with iron band metal tires. The two back wheels are larger than the front. Wooden body was once painted green while wooden back plate above bed at back to which trapezoid shaped iron hopper is mounted is painted red. Back end of bed below hopper is hinged to fold down. There are two metal gears below hopper attached to shaft that is connected to a chain that is wrapped around an inner metal circle attached to back left wheel so that when wheel is in motion chain and gears turn dropping seeds from hoper that are distributed via two spinning fan blades mounted below gears. Back wheel shaft is mounted securely to both sides of wagon bed while front wheel shaft is mounted to center front of bed and supported by a bent wood metal-lined circular beam, so that wheels can move side to side and wagon can turn. Front wooden beam is mounted to an iron rod that is securely mounted to both ends of front wheel shaft. Front of wagon bed is open, but two vertical notches in front side walls indicate that a front bed wall is probably missing. |
