Spanish Tortoise Shell Comb, c. 1850-1910. Hair comb made of translucent brown tortoise shell. Entirety of comb is one piece of shell; main shape is rectangular and curved nearly into a semicircle, and slightly flared out at top. Extending below this are nine long comb teeth, also slightly rounded and with their tips flaring slightly outward. Comb has been polished until smooth but is otherwise undecorated. |
