Description |
Irene Farrell's Hillsborough Police Matron Badge, 1942 . This silver metal badge belong to Irene Farrell of Hillsborough, the 1st Policewoman in San Mateo, CA. The badge is shaped like a star with floral motifs engraved on the badge near the end of each tips of the front of the badge. In the middle of the badge, in a circle, printed in blue and bold, the text reads "POLICE / HILLSBOROUGH / MATRON". The text "HILLSBOROUGH" is smaller than both of the text above with two small blue lines in between the text "POLICE / HILLSBOROUGH" and the text "HILLSBOROUGH / MATRON". On the back of the badge towards the bottom left, in tiny and bold lettering, the engraved text reads "IRVINE & JACHENS / S.F." On the back of the badge towards the bottom right, in tiny and bold lettering, the engraved text reads "STERLING". Also on the back of the badge is a metal pin that is held together by a metal safety patch that looks like a small loop on the back. |
