Badge is plain of decoration and has two small holes punched into it, one in the top point and one in the bottom point. Stamped on it in black is "RAILROAD POLICE 18 CALIFORNIA SOUTHERN PACIFIC CO." The 18 is in the center and the other lines curve above and below it. |

The Southern Pacific Railroad started in 1865 as a land-holding company; by 1900 it had taken over many railroad lines throughout California and extending to Louisiana, Utah, and Oregon.
