Description |
Framed Intaglio Print, "Prelude de Nina", 18th-19th Century. Alexandre Chaponnier print after painting by Louis-Léopold Boilly. Color print shows a male and a female figure near a piano in a bedroom. A woman in a white dress visible at center sits at a light gray piano that fills the lower right side of the image. The man at left wears a white wig, blue jacket, white ruffled shirt and white pants. The woman turns toward a man who in turn leans forward and places one arm around the back of the woman and one hand on the keyboard. A violin rests partially on the man's left leg and the woman's lap. The figures embrace with mouths almost touching. A bed with a blue canopy appears at left. A brown dresser sits next to it in the background. A chair at lower left has a blue coat draped over one arm, a cane, and a hat resting on the seat cushion. A sting instrument leans against a stool at lower right that has curled rolls of paper sitting on top. "Prelude de Nina / A Paris Chez le'tuleur Rue L'Monore, entre la Rue des bons Enfaus / 1e Palais Reyale Maison du Parfumne" printed in cursive font at bottom center in the lower margin. "Louis Boilly, pinxil" printed in small cursive font below bottom left corner of image. "M[do] Chaponnier Sculp" printed in small cursive font below bottom right corner of image. Print frame is wood with gold painted surface. |
