Oliver One-row Planter |
Object Name |
Seeder, Centrifugal |
Description |
Single-row Single-horse-drawn Corn Seeder is made of wood and metal. Large canister indicates that this seeder was used for planting corn or other plants with large seeds. Seeder has unpainted wooden arms attached near hand-holds by a wooden dowel and metal rod, both painted red. Large red steel canister holds seeds and has a rotor at base that spins to distribute them. This and all other mechanisms are made of green-painted iron. There is a wide iron wheel at the back that is concave in the center. A scraper is attached to the back of this wheel to push dirt back down. In center below canister is a long blade for creating a groove in the soil for seed placement. In the front is a large narrow solid iron wheel with traction formed by a pointed tire crossed with horizontal bands. Above front tire is a small iron tree to which a horse is somehow attached. |
