    Eucalyptus Log Mortar, 1920. Wooden Mortar is 22.5 inch section cut from a solid piece of Eucalyptus log. Wooden log stands on a flat end (as displayed) and has an approximate 7" deep, 15" wide mortar carved into the opposite end. This mortar was used to make mochi. There is also a 7 x 5 knot on the side of log.

Two gold colored Japanese apricot flower symbols are painted in the bowl's interior and the rim is also painted gold. Part of a traditional Japanese New Year display.

    Sambo (Mochi Stand). Dark red plastic serving stand. The top is square with the corners cut off at 45* angles, flat with a low rim around the edges. The top edge of the rim is painted gold. The base is the same square-without-the-corners shape, open at the bottom and hollow in the center, with cutouts on three sides. The cutouts are shaped like circles with an additional bell-like shape on top, like Christmas ornaments or round acorns.

    Wooden Mochi Pestle, 1920. Eucalyptus wood pounder used to make mochi. Handle is approximately 34.5 inches in length and passes through the pounder. This handle also appears to be smooth and stained. The pounder is a cylindrical shape with one flat and one rounded end.
