Japanese Travel Basket, c. 1915-1930. Large rectangular basket (A) with matching lid (B), probably made of woven bamboo. Weave is in a chevron pattern with a wrapped rim. Lid is slightly larger than the main basket in order to completely cover it and seal it closed but, open, both could be used as separate baskets. This travel basket is typical of those used by Japanese immigrants to carry the belongings with them to the U.S.

Native American Basket, c. 1800s. Small brown coiled bowl-shaped basket, with smaller strands of the fibers woven around a single sturdier piece spiraling up from the bottom center. The sides have an alternating black pattern of horses and a double-diamond shape, with three double-diamonds and two horses, and a blank space where a third horse would complete the pattern.
