"One of the finest all-around athletes in the long and storied history of Sequoia High School, Dick Sharon was a baseball star from the first moment he stepped onto the Redwood City campus in the mid-1960s. A four-year varsity performer on the diamond, he became the first Cherokee freshman to win a varsity baseball batting crown. He was a first-round draft pick of the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1968. He had a three-season major league career, playing for Detroit and San Diego from 1973 to 1975." [2009.030.162] |
