Name |
Guido, Helen Neuling |
Notes |
"Helen lived in San Mateo all her life. She loved to entertain friends, often in her garden. She was well known for her book reviews in women's circles and AAUW's Book Section. She loved to read, research and write essays about literary and historical topics such as Shakespeare's life or California's Native Americans. She could be counted on to lead programs, whether for AAUW's California Fact & Legend Section or Keystone class. "Helen died at her home on May 27, 2008, at age 88, after a series of strokes. She was strong-willed to the end, saying her farewells to her friends. She is survived by her daughter, Francesca, and her cat, Charlie. Her husband, Francis, died February 1, 1986, and her son, Garth, died January 10, 1991, of AIDS. Helen's Paradise is where she will rendezvous with Francis at the foot of Yosemite Falls. "...Helen's favorite philanthropic organizations were Planned Parenthood, (www.plannedparenthood.org) a cause she was quite vocal about, and the San Mateo County Historical Association, (www.historysmc.org) where she had been a docent for nearly a decade."
