"There may not have been a more versatile athlete ever to emerge from the Peninsula than the late Marte Formico. In the 1940's, the graduate of Mount Carmel Catholic School in Redwood City became one of Bellarmine Prep's all-time greatest all-around performers, starring in five sports. Later, at Santa Clara University, he distinguished himself by helping to lead the Bronco's storied football team to a 1950 Orange Bowl upset 21-13 victory over Kentucky and legendary Coach Bear Bryant."
