Edith Ford has been a resident of San Mateo for the past 30 years. She is a graduate of the New York School of Applied Design and has an Associate Degree in Art from Packer Collegiate Institute of Brooklyn, New York. She took up the study of watercolor in 1972 with the excellent artists in the Recreation Department and Adult School of San Mateo County. She has also had the opportunity to study with many fine National Watercolor Artists. She is a signature member of the Society of Western Artists and a member of several art groups in the Peninsula area. Her paintings are in many private collections locally, nationally and internationally. OBJECTIVES FOR PAINTING "THE WOODSIDE STORE" While on location, painting "The Woodside Store," I had the distinct feeling that it had been the meeting place for the many loggers that had actually cut and hauled the logs in the area. It was a general store and supplied their needs. There was a small structure on the opposite side that was a laundry. People came on foot and horseback as there was a hollowed out log used for a watering trough. The fine old trees in the vicinity were spared even at the time of this painting. |
