Knife, Hoof |
Description |
Horse Hoof Trimmer, c. 1900-1950. Trimmer with a gently curved metal blade set into a round bone handle and held in place by two nails. Bone handle is smoothed but fairly natural, with more porous marrow visible in the center at both ends. Bone is uneven brown in color, almost wood-like in appearance. Metal blade is slightly curved relative to both the horizontal and vertical lines of the handle, with the convex edge sharper than the concave one. Blade ends in a sharp, flat squared-off edge that has been folded back to make a sort of pick. On the inside flat edge of the blade is stamped manufacturer information, though it is barely legible. |
