It is shaped like a shield with two scallops with three tips. It has a gold outer border around the shield with wooden varnish at the back of the plaque. Within the red border of the plaque, there is a block of text painted in red, blue and gold. Written in red and in bold, the text reads "WAR BOND SALES... / AWARD OF MERIT".  The text "WAR BOND SALES", the "A" in the word "AWARD" and "M" in the word "MERIT" are upper cased.  Written in red and gold and in italics, the text reads "TROPHY". "T"in the word "TROPHY" is upper cased and the rest of the letters are lower cased.  The gold lettering is painted around the word "TROPHY" that is already painted in red. Written in blue, the text reads "THIS PATRIOTIC FIRM... / HAS NOW THE... / THIS WEEK  / IN THE / SAN MATEO / MERCHANTS / CONTINUING CAMPAIGN TO SELL MORE  / WAR BONDS AND STAMPS / SAN MATEO CHAMBER OF COMMERCE / 1943". Image of 0001.088 - Handmade Rag Area Rug, 1850.  Colored rag strips are of various fibers, possibly including wool, cotton and linen.  Rag strips are woven through a burlap backing.  Pattern is of alternating dark and light brown colored diamonds with a pattern of two same-colored flowers and one different-colored flower in the center with green leaves at points of longest ends of diamond.  Long end of diamond pattern runs along the long width of the rug with short side of diamond making up the depth.  Other fabric colors include:  red, blue, pink, cream and gold.  A light tan newer burlap 2 5/8" border has been affixed to back of rug to stabilize edging.  Rug is heavily worn with several holes and patches throughout.

A plastic vent protrudes from side of mask on the outside.  No mouthpiece inside mask, only a hole leading to the metal canister tube.  Text embossed on metal canister on inside of mask.  Five elastic straps extend at back of mask to hold head.  Straps have metal buckles to adjust size of straps. All mask pieces are olive green drab in color.
