Description |
Plaque commemorating Nate Branch being inducted into the San Mateo County Sports Hall of Fame on May 28, 1991. Plaque includes image of Branch and a brief biography: "Nate Branch's ball has bounced on many courts since his halcyon days at Ravenswood High School. The East Palo Alto basketball player parlayed his passion for the sport and Ravenswood basketball coach Tom Crane's encouragement into a 15-year career with the world-famous Harlem Globetrotters, visiting every corner of the Earth. Still, Branch's most treasured memories of his extensive basketball career are about a high school playoff game at Stanford University's old Pavilion. It was his baseline jumper with five seconds left in the fifth overtime which gave Ravenswood the Peninsula Basketball Tournament title against St. Elizabeth of Oakland in a game that arguably stands as the most dramatic prep game ever played on the Peninsula. Branch went on to star at the University of Nebraska and then eschewed pro bids from both the ABA and NBA to join his former childhood idols, Marques Haynes and Meadowlark Lemon. Branch retired several years ago and has returned to live in East Palo Alto." |
