Description |
Victrola, c. 1911-1924. Wooden table-top Victrola has beveled wooden molding at the bottom, a hinged lid and two hinged doors in front with metal knobs that open to the side to reveal wooden slatted speakers. Lid is affixed to a silver-colored metal angle bracket with a notch for keeping it open at an angle. A color Victrola logo is affixed to the underside of the lid and "THE WILEY B.ALLEN CO." is on the interor bottom back panel of this lid in gold. There is a Z-shaped crank on the right side with a wooden knob rotating handle. Interior has a green felt turntable with a silver-colored metal speed guage in the front right corner and three small scooped-out wooden trays in the back left corner. The center tray has a flat bottom and contains a tin(?) metal cup full of spare needles. At the back center is a large silver-colored metal record arm affixed via a black painted metal mount. The arm swivels on the mount and has a hinged front piece that holds the needle and lifts up or down to place/remove it from the record. In the back right corner is a black and silver colored metal maker's tag. Both the lid maker's mark and the metal tag have an image of the logo of a dog listening to the Victrola. |
