Plaque commemorating Greg Buckingham of Menlo-Atherton High School being inducted into the San Mateo County Sports Hall of Fame on May 22, 1997. Plaque includes image of Buckingham and a brief biography: "Greg Buckingham was a standout swimmer at Menlo-Atherton High School in the early 1960's when the Peninsula was a world-renowned haven for outstanding young aquatic athletes. He attended the College of San Mateo, producing 10 community college all-American times and four national JC records. Later at Stanford, he led his team to the 1967 NCAA swim championship, capturing two freestyle races. His career peaked in 1968 when, as a member of the U.S. Olympic team, he won two medals, a gold and a silver." |
