Jim Gaughran Peninsula Sports Hall of Fame Plaque, 2014. Plaque includes image of Jim Gaughran and a brief biography: "One of the greatest prep swimmers and water polo players ever produced on the Peninsula, Jim later excelled at Stanford University, becoming an all-American in both aquatic sports. He was a member of the 1956 U.S. Olympic water polo team. It was only natural that he proceeded to take up coaching in the pool. As Standford's head coach from 1960 to 1979 he coached 21 Olympic swimmers (winners of 8 Gold, 2 Silver and 5 Bronze medals) and 4 Olympic water polo players. His swimmers won 22 NCAA Championships in all strokes and all distances, and 4 relays. His Stanford swim teams compiled an overall dual meet record of 129-47-1 (.732)." |
