Plaque commemorating Leslie Maxie being inducted into the San Mateo County Sports Hall of Fame on May 25, 1995. Plaque includes image of Maxie and a brief biography: "In the 1980's, Leslie Maxie was synonymouse with speed. She was the epitome of quickness off the blocks. As a young track and field star at Mills High in Millbrae, she became one of the most heralded female athletes in San Mateo County history. / She blazed a briliant trail that led all the way to the 1988 Olympic Games in South Korea. She was an laternate on the 1984 Olympic team as well. For a time, she held the world record in the 400-meter hurdles and a national mark in the 300-meter hurdles. At Mills, she won three state hurdles titles in three years. / Later, at USC, Maxie was part of an NCAA championship mile relay team. She also captured a national second place in the 400-meter hurdles." |
