Friendship Quilt, 1900. Hand-embroidered friendship quilt made by women of Half Moon Bay, California, to raise money for the Methodist-Episcopal Church to buy carpet. Quilt consists of red circles on a white ground. Circles have individual names embroidered in white stitches. A border of alternating red and white stripes surround the red circles, forming sun rays. Names are embroidered on the white strips with red thread. Quilt appears to be machine sewn and hand-quilted. Quilting pattern is a star burst radiating out from the center of the red circles with diagonal diamonds on the white ground. Quilt is edged in red binding.
