Description |
Pill Roller, c. 1900. Used at Ryan Pharmacy in Redwood City. Made out of brow-colored wood with grooved corrugated metal parts, nails and plates, it is comprised of two parts, the top and the base. The top is shaped like a flat cooking rolling pin with a center that is shaped like a slim parallelepiped and has a grooved corrugated metal plate attached to it with nails, it also has two vertical metal plates on each side of the grooves with two metal wheels shaped like spinning tops which would facilitate the top sliding over the base cutting the dough-like medicinal mixture. The base is shaped like a parallelepiped box with two metal plaques nailed to the two longest parallel sides and a wood stump nailed to its base for leverage. On the surface, on the lower part it has a grooved corrugated metal plate that matches the one on top part. |
