The Serra grad matriculated to USC where he quickly became an all-American in the pool, setting world records in the 400-meter freestyle. He was a silver medalist in the Pan American Games in 1971. Swimming for the U.S. in the tragically ill-fated 1972 Olympic Games, he was a bronze medalist in the 400-freestyle.
