Description |
Victorian Nightstand c.1860-1885. Dark walnut stained wooden nightstand has a marble top, a drawer and a door. The drawer has an oval fillet frame inside of which is a wooden cut diamond shaped pull extending horizontally to each side into elongated trumpets. The door has a small knob brass handle at a proper top right corner and a fillet frame with a square bottom and cut top corners. At door's center is a shield with an egg inside. The nightstand has canted front corners embellished with scrolls and geometric shapes. The drawer and the base of the night stand are wider than its body and are connected to body with cascading mouldings. The nightstand is supposed to stand on casters. Inside, the nightstand has a shelve in the middle. |

Provenance |
The set originally came from a home in Portolla Valley, CA. Gloria Carr and her husband were real estate agents in the late 1940's. They bought and re-sold the home that the furniture was found in. She fell in love with it, and had it moved to her home in Menlo Park. She treasured and used it for many years. |
