Plaque commemorating Bill Walsh of College of San Mateo being inducted into the San Mateo County Sports Hall of Fame on May 18, 1993. Plaque includes image of Walsh and a brief biography: "For Bill Walsh, the road from the College of San Mateo to the Superbowl was a long and varied one. A former CSM quarterback for Coach Herb Hudson, Walsh graduated from San Jose State and then began his coaching career. He went from a high school job in the East Bay to assistant positions at Cal, Stanford and the Raiders, Bengals and Chargers of the NFL. / He did a first stint as Stanford's boss in 1977 and '78. In 1979, he took over the Forty Niners top post, leading that NFL franchise to three Super Bowls. He is a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. / He returned to Stanford in 1992. The Cardinal tied for the Pac-10 championship that year. In his two Stanford tours of duty, Walsh's teams have won three post-season bowl games in three tries." |
