Plaque includes image of Connolly and a brief biography: "Pat Connolly was a Peninsula pioneer. The Capuchino High School student didn't have an interscholastic team to play on at the San Bruno school but went to the 1960 Olympic Games anyway as a track and field performer. She participated in two more Olympics as a U.S. pentathlete, finishing sixth in Mexico City in 1968. Known during her high school days as Pat Daniels, she was a 15-time national champion in the pentathlon, long jump, high jump and 800-meter run. On the Peninsula, she competed for the Milbrae Lions Club AAU track team under the guidance of Coach Ed Parker. Connolly was a member of 10 national track and field teams, and she was named an all-American eight times. She organized the first women's cross-country and track and field programs at UCLA, winning the NCAA championship in 1977 and placing second in 1978. Connolly has coached a number of Olympians, including Evelyn Ashford and Renaldo Nehemiah. She was a member of the U.S. Olympic Committee and coached the Puma Track Club, winning a national championship in 1986." |
