c. 1970-1990 Bobbin Winder |
Object Name |
Winder, Bobbin |
Description |
Bobbin winder for filling bobbins with thread in preparation for bobbin-lace making. Wooden unit has a clear mat finish. Rectangular base has a notch extending its entire length with two upright pieces on either end and a sliding upright piece in the center. A dowel goes through the center piece and is affixed to either end. Taller end has a wheel-shaped crank with a perpendicular handle on the outside. Center piece and crank-end piece both have horizontal facing "cups" at top for holding bobbin. There are two small notched dowels below large dowel to which is affixed a tan-colored rubber-band. Below the rubber band on the end piece is another small dowel that is attached through upright to crank. It has a perpendicular piece going through the dowel end. Center piece has two thin horizontal dowel cross-pieces on either side, probably for holding a spool of thread with the option of using either side depending on if you want to crank with your right or left hand. Crank wheel and end cap above it for bobbin "cup" both are notched in the center, possibly for winding thread. White cloth contact paper with rubberized vinyl dots affixed to bottom of unit to keep it from sliding on a table. |
