Plaque commemorating Ray and Zada Taft being inducted into the San Mateo County Sports Hall of Fame on May 19, 1992. Plaque includes images of Ray and Zada Taft and a brief biography: "Ray and Zada Taft have been swimming fixtures in San Mateo County. / Natives of San Francisco, they have taught more than 10,000 Peninsula youngsters to swim at their little school on 40th Avenue in south San Mateo. / As swimmers themselves, the two of them have been establishing records in the masters division since the 1970s. / At one time, Ray held no fewer than 21 masters records simultaneously. He has been swimming competitively since 1933. / So has Zada. The holder of three Pacific Association masters marks, she has swum the Golden Gate channel on 22 occasions. She did so the first time at age 17." |
