Description |
Japanese Tea Tray, c. 1930-1970. Blue and white porcelain ceramic tea set includes a bamboo tray (A), teapot (B) with lid, pitcher (C) and five teacups (D-H). Smooth bamboo tray (A) is rectangular in shape, painted black on the bottom and top edge and has a woodgrain finish on the recessed top. All of the ceramic ware is white with a cityscape motif featuring trees, fields, hills and at least one building in blue on one side with hills depicted on the opposite side and on the teapot lid. Teapot (B) is bowl shaped with a curved spout that is bulbous near the shoulder, carafe-shaped white handle perpendicular to the spout and a flat lid that rests inside the pot and has a raised knob handle. Pitcher (C) has a round ring base and is triangular in shape with the point forming the spout and the opposite edge pushed inward. Cups (D-H) have ringed bases upon which set the bowls with very slightly flared rims. |
