Penn Furniture Shops Yardstick, c. late 1920s. Brown wooden yardstick with clear varnish has black lettering on both sides. One side includes 36" measurement marks along one edge with text that reads, "DESIGNERS AND MAKERS OF FINE / FURNITURE AND DRAPERIES / PENN FURNITURE SHOPS Inc. / 130-140 SECOND AVE., SAN MATEO / DESIGNS IN DRAPERY AND UPHOLSTERY FABRICS, / FLOOR COVERINGS AND WALL HANGINGS, IMPORTED and DOMESTIC." Back side has 1/4 yard markings and text that reads, "COMPLETE AND MODERN DRAPERY, UPHOLSTERY, CABINET, / FINISHING, PAINTING, AWNING AND SHADE DEPARTMENTS. / NO JOB TOO SMALL TO RECEIVE OUR PERSONAL ATTENTION / ESTIMATES GLADLY GIVEN / ESTABLISHED / TWENTY TWO / YEARS / PENN FURNITURE SHOPS Inc. / INTERIOR DECORATORS / 130-140 SECOND AVE. / SAN MATEO / TELEPHONE / SAN MATEO 45 / TWENTY TWO YEARS / OF / PERSONAL SERVICE / MODERN LIGHT, FIRE PROOF WORK ROOMS / THE RIGHT ATMOSPHERE TO INSURE THE BEST / WORKMANSHIP AND PROTECTION TO YOUR / FURNISHINGS WHILE IN OUR CARE." There is a hole for hanging at the end which begins both sides of text. |

If a milionaire desires some special drapes or tapestries, It is not an unusual thing for Gibson to wire his representative in New York to go 10 Europe and select them. If some artistic home owner desires specially carved furniture to grace a new Hillsborough home, there are artists in the Penn Shops who do the work as well as did the Italian carvers -»-ho were formerly brought hei e for such work."
