Plaque commemorating Bruce and Byron Van Alstyne of Burlingame High School being inducted into the San Mateo County Sports Hall of Fame on June 5, 2001. Plaque includes images of the Van Alstyne brothers and a brief biography: "Bruce and Byron Van Alstyne became one of San Mateo County's most athletically gifted brother acts in the 1940s and early 1950s. Both were three-sport stars who attended Burlingame High School and Menlo College. Bruce, a year younger than Byron, played football at Stanford as an end and linebacker He participated in the 1951 East-West Shrine Game. He turned down a chance to play pro football. Byron, a guard, went on to play basketball at USC. Both brothers served in the U.S. Navy." |
