Plaque commemorating Lynn Swann being inducted into the San Mateo County Sports Hall of Fame on May 17, 1989. Plaque includes image of Swann and a brief biography: "Lynn Swann, a Serra High School graduate, probably played in more important football games than anyone in San Mateo County athletic history. At Serra, the 6-foot pass receiver was the Northern California Player of the Year in 1969. He led the Padres to two West Catholic Athletic League championships during his three varsity seasons, during which Serra was 27-3 overall. / Swann also was an all-WCAL baskerball player and a prep state champion in the long jump. He was an all-San Mateo County football player in all three varsity seasons. During his Serra career, he scored 38 touchdowns for 271 points. / Swann went on to the University of Southern California where he became an all-American and played in two Rose Bowls. He was a first round NFL draft selection of the Pittsburgh Steelers in 1974. / With the Steelers, Swann was an all-NFL wise receiver. He played in thre Pro Bowls and four Super Bowls. He was the Most Valuable of Super Bowl X in which he set a record with 161 yeards on four receptions. During his NFL careeer with the Steelers, Swann caught 336 passes for 5,452 yards." |
