Description |
Pigeon Point Scrimshaw Pen Stand, c. 2005-2015. Pen stand made of a wood base, a piece of scrimshaw, and a pen holder. Wood base is rectangular, medium brown, and smoothed but otherwise unfinished; on the bottom at each corner is a small felt circle. Scrimshaw is a piece of bone or ivory, with the front and sides polished and the top showing the exposed cross-section. Cross-section is shaped like an elongated oval, with a hollow in the center that extends downward about a half inch and two smaller, deeper hollows near the oval's narrow points. From the front, the polished piece appears approximately rectangular. On it is etched and painted a picture of Pigeon Point Lighthouse: a tall, white tower, a small cottage, and a low fence and green grass across the very bottom. The pen holder is black plastic and shaped like a flared pen cap. It is attached to the wood by a gold metal ball-and-socket joint, allowing the pen holder to be adjusted to different angles. Accompanying pen (B) is black with a gold band around its center and gold tip. |
