Description |
Spanish Side Chair, c. 1825-1875. Chair constructed with medium brown walnut wood and similarly colored leather seat and back rest. The leather is held in place with upholstery tacks that have a large dome head. A small rectangular piece is cut out of the leather at each corner of the seat, so that the leather wraps down over the apron of the chair seat on each side. The leather seat is held in place with six tacks on each side. On the chair back, leather is stretched across the top and cross rail in a similar fashion to the seat. The leather on the back is attached with four tacks on the front and side of each stile and six tacks each on the top side of the top rail and the underside of the cross rail. The front stretcher is carved with geometric designs and the chair ears are carved into scroll shapes. |
