Wood and acrylic plaque commemorating Russell Baze of Woodside who was inducted into the San Mateo County Sports Hall of Fame on June 7, 2000. Plaque includes image of Baze and a brief biography: "Russell Baze is synonymous with horse racing excellence. The Woodside resident is a member of thoroughbred racing's Hall of Fame. By early spring 2000, he moved into seventh place on the list of all-time winning jockeys by producing his 6,970th first-place finish at Golden Gate Fields in Albany. He is Northern California's all-time leading reinsman. As the 2000 season progressed, he was approaching total earnings of $100 million over his 27-year professional career." |
