Description |
Japanese Miniature Tea Set, c. 1930-1970. Pale green coiled ceramic set is handmade with a hand-carved wooden tray (A). Set includes a teapot (B) with lid, pitcher (C) and six ceramic cups (D-I). It also has five wooden saucers (J-N) to go with the cups. Teapot (A) has flared straight sides, tiny flat sculpted scallop handles on sides, a large hand-formed triangular spout and a flat knobbed lid. All ceramic pieces have small ring unglazed bases. The pitcher (B) has straight sides with the rim shaped into a spout on one side. Cups (D-I) have straight sides that flare outward at the shoulder. Saucers (J-N) are turned solid wood that appear to have a clear lacquer finish which highlights the woodgrain. They have a recessed base, which fits the ups, and flared sides. Tray (A) is made of dark wood, rectangular in shape with rounded corners and a rough finish except for the recessed top which is sanded smooth. Tray also appears to have a clear lacquer finish. |
