Plaque commemorating Don Bunce of Woodside High School being inducted into the San Mateo County Sports Hall of Fame on May 19, 1992. Plaque includes image of Bunce and a brief biography: "Don Bunce, a graduate of Woodside High School, was the Peninsula's Athlete of the Year in 1967. An all-around sports star at Woodside, he bacame one of the outstanding prep quarterbacks in the Bay Area by his senior football season. He decided to attend Stanford University, just down the road from his Ladera home. He had to wait for his turn because eventual Heisman Trophy winner Jim Plunkett was ahead of him. Bunce got his chance to direct Stanford's offense in 1971. He led the Indians to the Pac-8 football championship. In the 1972 Rose Bowl, Bunce ran the Stanford show in a 13-12 Stanford upset over top-rated Michigan." |
