Notes |
Bluenose Canadian Fishing Schooner, 1921 Model by Charles Parsons 1:72 scale, Completed 2001 The Bluenose was known as the "Queen of the North Atlantic." Built in Nova Scotia as a banks fisherman, she worked the rough waters of f Newfoundland. She won the International Fishermen’s Trophy in 1921 and kept it during an 18-year racing career. After her racing career, the Bluenose was sold for coastal fishing, this time in Caribbean waters. In January 1946, she was lost after striking a reef off Haiti. Commemorated on a 1928 Canadian stamp, her likeness also appears on the Canadian dime. In 1955, the Bluenose and her captain, Angus J. Walters, were inducted into the Canadian Sports Hall of Fame. |
