2014 Launching of the Sea Fiddler by Fred Sinclair, Jr. Unframed 5x3 foot acrylic and oil on canvas painting depicting the launch of the Sea Fiddler on June 1, 1944. Scene depicts a shipping dock with wood-framed structures supporting cranes, on the left and right edges. There are three cranes on the left, and one on the right. In the center of the painting is the Sea Fiddler at the end of a dock that is full of people. The ship is grey with a red strip at the base. There is a red, white, and blue banner draped around the front, and a red flag at the very front. The name of the ship is written on the right side, in white, and is partially covered by the banner. There is a U.S. flag towards the center of the ship, as well as 5 other flags near the smoke stack. Some figures can be seen on the ship. There is a rush of water at the base of the ship, on the right side, caused by the ship being launched. There are two sea birds sitting on posts in the lower right corner. The sky is blue/grey with clouds, with an orange and yellow strip at the horizon. A large ship can be seen at the horizon, to the left of the Sea Fiddler. The edge of the base has not been painted, but all other edges have been. |

Built at Western Pipe and Steel in South San Francisco, the Sea Fiddler was launched on June 1, 1944. During World War II, she served as a troop transport. Western Pipe and Steel constructed 48 ships during the war. |
