Blanket Piece, c. 1860-70. Blue and off white plaid piece of blanket of hand spun and home raised wool. The blanket consists of 2 inch columns and rows creating ivory light blue and dark blue 2in. x 2in. squares. there are 20 columns of blue and 19 columns of ivory going horizontally from side to side and traveling vertically from top to bottom there are 9 rows of blue and 11 rows of ivory. On the right side approximately 11.5in. from the edge there is a hand-stitched seam running all the way from the bottom to the top which connects two columns of ivory disrupting the pattern of every other: blue, ivory, blue, ivory. etc. |
