The Yosemite Grant, a federal bill that protected the Yosemite area from commercial interests and established it as a California State Park, was passed in 1864. The area became a National Park in 1890. Yosemite Valley, which is only a small piece of the park but contains most of the park's famous sights, attracts 4-5 million visitors annually. [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yosemite_National_Park 05/02/2018] Yosemite's Tunnel View, a scenic overlook off of Highway 41 just west of Yosemite Valley, provides visitors with a view of many of the valley's landmarks as they enter. It opened in 1933. [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tunnel_View 05/02/2018] |
