Truman with Fishing Pole at Whistle Stop During Burlingame Southern Pacific Depot, October 1948. Black and white negative of President Harry S. Truman holding a fishing pole presented to him by the Burlingame Lions Club for the "Shark's Derby."Truman is on his whistle-stop tour at the Burlingame Southern Pacific Depot during the 1948 Truman-Dewey presidential campaign. First Lady Bess Truman is holding a bouquet of flowers and facing President Truman with her back to the camera. Between the President and the First Lady is Burlingame Post Master John Broderick. The train behind the President is the Ferdinald Magellan, an armored Pullman train car originally used by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt for his whistle-stop tours. No. 1) is a former Pullman Company observation car which served as Presidential Rail Car, U.S. Number 1 from 1943 until 1958. The current owner Gold Coast Railroad Museum in Miami-Dade County, Florida, acquired it in 1959. The Ferdinand Magellan was designated a National Historic Landmark by the United States Department of the Interior, National Park Service on February 4, 1985."
