Notes |
"Fire Captain Martin Boyle Will Retire...The pleasant, friendly, smiling man who has been a familiar sight in the San Mateo city fire stations for the past 30 years- Captain Martin P. Boyle- is retiring November 1. He described by Fire Chief Hugh F. Morris and Deputy Fire Chief Noe Chanteloup, as "one of the department's most loyal, dedicated firemen, who has served the people of the city of San Mateo well"... his fellow firemen recall that to Captain Boyle's credit goes the rescue of a woman from a blazing two-story rooming house of Fourth avenue and B street some years ago. It was Captain Boyle also who tried futilely to rescue two other victims of a house fire on South El Camino Real... His retirement will be commorated by his fellow firemen and their wives with a big testimonial dinner commencing at 7:30pm at the Benjamin Franklin hotel on October 29...The family home is at 3011 Landsdale avenue. Born in Fargo, N.D., Captain Boyle is a veteral of World War I. Known also as "Doc" to his many close friends and associates. Captain Boyle joined the fire department as a part-time member on August 1, 1928. He was given a permanent appointment on February 1, 1929, and was promoted to captain on January 1, 1943..."
