Description |
Building Wooden Walk to School, c. 1880-1890. 6 men are building a fenced walkway. Behind them, a woman or girl is sitting at the edge of the path. In the left rear, part of a single-story building, apparently the school, is visible. The school is built on a platform. This was the walkway running west from Main Street adjacent to Van Court's to the school. The school site was next to Redwood Creek, so the walkway and platform were necessary to keep above the creek in high water. Van Court's shadow is visible in the lower center. Long shadows indicate this would have been taken early on a summer morning, when the ground at this location would have been dry. |
