Description |
Burlingame Fire Department Volunteers, 1951. Black and white negative shows approximately eighteen volunteer firefighters from the Burlingame Fire Department putting out a fire in Burlingame, California. Some of the volunteers wear firefighter jackets and helmets and others wear civilian clothes. Three of the firefighters with their backs turned to the camera have lettering on their jackets. The firefighter on the far left has the number "23" as well as an illegible marking on the back of his helmet. Next to him is another firefighter in lighter colored pants whose jacket says "GF L." To the right, another firefighter has the name "Gene J" on his jacket and a number "31" above it. He also wears a helmet with the number "21" in a shield. Some of the volunteers are shirtless. The volunteers hold two large hoses and spray water upwards into the entrance of a burnt brick building. There is a third hose on the ground in the foreground. There are ashes and charcoal near the entrance to the building and water in the street. There are no flames visible. |
