Description |
Burlingame Clean-Up Days, 1949. Black and white negative of fire department personnel hanging signs for Burlingame's Clean-Up Days on the corner of Broadway and California Drive in Burlingame, California. Two Fire Department personnel on ladders are stapling a broom and a mop to a poster on a lamppost. One of the men is on a free standing ladder and the other is on the ladder of a truck. The poster reads, "IT'S / CLEAN-UP / TIME / IN / BURLINGAME / MAY / 15-21." The poster also shows a cartoon image of a figure carrying a large wooden barrel full of junk. Below the firefighter on the left is a street sign for California Drive and another street whose sign is facing away from the camera. There are four cars driving on the streets behind the firefighters. In the background above the firefighter on the right is a partially visible sign for a Standard Oil gas station. The sign reads, "STAN[…] / STAT[…] / IN[…]." There is a partially covered sign on a building in the background that reads, "BEKINS / VAN[…] / STORAG[E] / SINCE 1[…] / NAT[I]ONWIDE [R]EMOVALS / OF / HOU[S]EHOLD FU[R]NISHINGS." A railroad crossing appears at mid-ground and an overpass can be seen in the distance. |
