Description |
Pump House Located Near Bayswater and Victoria Roads in Burlingame, 1948. Black and white negative shows a pumping station, or "pump house" that is a two story wooden structure with a wide base that narrows as it reaches the top. On the top of the pump house is a round metal tank with a metal railing around it. There is a door at the base of the pump house. The upper portion of the structure is on fire and a plume of smoke rises in the upper right portion of the image. It appears that there was a smaller building attached to the pump house that has burned down to its frame. There are four firefighters holding two hoses. One sprays water through the door at the base of the pump house, and the other sprays water on the adjacent building. Photographer Norton Pearl notes that this image shows one of the last remaining private pump houses in Burlingame on fire. Part of a series of 6. |
